SERVICE DAY PET FOOD DRIVE
In honor of Martin Luther King National Day of Service, the Foster Grandparents of the Wyoming Rockies are holding their sixth annual MLK Day of Service Pet Food Drive. Collection boxes are located at Feeding Laramie Valley, The Feed Store, C & A Pet and Livestock Supply, Albany County Public Library, and Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply. All proceeds will be distributed to Laramie Animal Welfare Society and Laramie Interfaith. Donations accepted through the end of February 2022. Thank you!
SERVICE DAY COAT DRIVE
For our 9/11 Day of Service project we are holding a coat drive in partnerships with One Warm Coat, from August 23 - October 25. We will also have a donation bin near the front door of the Feeding Laramie Valley Building for coat drop off throughout the event.
ANNUAL FIELD TRIPS
Weather permitting, our grandparents have often enjoyed one last blast as a close to their school year. Field trips have included a wagon ride at the Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse Ecosanctuary in Centennial, The Brinton Museum in Big Horn, and UW’s American Heritage Archives in Laramie.
ANNUAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Who doesn’t love ice cream? National Service volunteers (Foster Grandparents) and members (VISTA, AmeriCorps VISTA, NCCC) have gathered during AmeriCorps week to share ice cream and talk about National Service.
CONVENINGS
Our Foster Grandparents enjoy gathering with other AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers for learning, fellowship and fun. Whether it’s in Cheyenne for the 2017 Wyoming Senior Corps Round-Up, a convening in Casper with other National Service members, or in Laramie at the Higher Ground Fair, our Foster Grandparents go the extra mile (literally!).
FOSTER GRANDPARENT & FRIENDS YOUNG@HEART CHOIR
A true multi-generational and community collaboration between our program, the University of Wyoming Choral Studies students and Director, and the Laramie Community Choir.
GARAGE SALE
Proceeds from this sale were shared with Home on the Range Animal Rescue.
KID'S SUMMER MOVIES
Kid's Summer Movies - Since 2017, Studio City has partnered with us to promote their Kids’ Summer Movie events. FGWR shares a portion of its earnings with volunteer site partners.
SPRING RECOGNITION EVENTS
After serving all year, it’s time for US to pamper our volunteers and thank them for their tireless commitment to their communities.
9/11 & MLK SERVICE PROJECTS
Whether it’s letter writing to Wyoming Vets, baking cookies for local Fire Companies, helping out on the children’s backpack program or our pet food drive, our seniors care about and serve for a wide range of causes.
